what can i say

my 9s had their final today. 3 of them lead a class prayer for success before i handed out the exam.

i'll miss them. i gave a nice spiel and stuff, but they were too spazzed to take note and harass me about it.
one student wrote on her last question "have a good summer miss and get lots of rest cus i'll be BACK next year!!"

i'm not sure if that was a warning or a threat.

as usual, there were stupid mistakes made by me that gummed up the works at the start of the exam. but ah well. i got them all marked and recorded. praises!
=)

in other news, i learned something about the sea on tuesday when we were at las cuevas. the curl of the wave does not curl very much on the way down. despite all those cool baywatch side shots of curly waves, that is NOT what happens.
waves curl UP, then CRASH STRAIGHT DOWN.

yes.

so, if you try to (body) ride a wave, you will coast down AND forward... but there will be a lot of down before the forward part.

well. if you combine this risky behaviour with other factors such as "dont dive into the shallow end of the pool", then you have a potentially dangerous situation.

OR, in laymans terms, you set yourself up to get beat down by the ocean. bodyslammed by the sea as it were.

i went DOWN, straight into the sand becuase, well, where i was standing, the water was only 3ft deep apparently - despite appearances that would indicate otherwise. the wave took my body and slammed it face first into the sand, then FORWARD as waves do (remember down, then forward), which gave me a nice sand burn and a throbbing chin.

at some point (i'd like to think) reflexes took over and i put my hand out, getting my wrist sandblasted in the process. the other hand was securing my useless bathing suit halter top from a wardrobe malfunction. no need to flash my 10 year old cousin... and the pervy man with his daughter gazing from 100 ft away, the jerk.

i came up, mikey was all panicked... and i simply verified that i wasn't bleeding... profusely anyway. needless to say, that was when we decided to quit the sea and try our luck with the beastly sandflies on shore.

i had a nasty scaly scab below my lips that was flaking off ever so fashionably today while i was at work. everyone helpfully pointed out "oh, you have a...little something there... a you know... its dry or something".

oh no.

those are battle scars, my friend. part of a matching set.

....
despite my griping, the period before we lost the gamble with the ocean was good times. i opened my eyes underwater. it was very clear. 3 cheers to josh for helping me to get over my panic about having my head underwater and forcing me to keep my eyes open. it was pretty cool to be able to see where i was going! lol
AND we saw a jellyfish. very cool. looks just like the jellies in finding nemo. pink and blobby...and totally oblivious to gawking onlookers.
