"you like hanging out with old people"

it must be true. i've been conditioned after living with my grandparents for years to like hanging out and doing things for old people... especially if they remind me of my grandmother.
on sunday, i sat yukkin it up with [it turned out] the grandparents of one of my students, their good friend (who at 81 looked no older than 60). there were also 3 other ladies who were, at the very least, over 50.

the 81 year old joined in the chorus about how they would NEVER be involved with a WEST INDIAN man, or rather a BLACK man, in very conspiratorial tones.
it was interesting. they whispered this confidence across the length of the table as if they were sharing the secrets of the ages but knowing that they were committing 'race treason' ... or some unicorn of that nature.

that they could paint all black men by one brush based on some true stories was amusing to me. ALL black men, til the end of time, apparently, will "make you so you cant wear a hat - because you get horned so much the horns stick out your forehead".

who knew?

yet i could think of a few examples of black men who weren't like that.

i got spotted in 51. and got reported on by a friend of nigel's. steups. it was a guy named kelvin who i had met the week before. i wanted to know who was telling stories about me without even coming up to say hi. even got into the whole "who i was with". lol. spreading lies that i'm into white guys.
apparently he saw me with josh after the rest of the posse had left.
thank goodness nigel set him straight!
lol that even sounds weird to me.

i like this teaching thing. it suits me.
